โรคของปลาสวยงามที่เกิดจากสภาพแวดล้อม
1. Acidosis เกิดจากน้ำเป็นกรดมากเกินไป ปลาจะพยายามกระโดดไปมาคล้ายจะหนีออกมาจากน้ำ มีอาการหายใจและว่ายน้ำผิดปกติ ถ้านานจะเห็นการอักเสบมีเมือกมากของผิวหนังและเหงือกจนอาจมีอาการเลือดออก บางครั้งสีปลาจะจัดขึ้นด้วย

2. Alkalosis เกิดจากน้ำเป็นด่างมากเกินไป ปลาจะมีอาการเหงือกซีดและมีการกร่อนของผิว มีเมือกมาก ในระยะแรกจะเห็นผิวเป็นสีขาวฟ้าขุ่น ครีบกร่อน ควรปรับสภาพน้ำให้พอเหมาะโดยอาจใช้น้ำส้มสายชูช่วย

3. พิษจากแอมโมเนีย แอมโมเนียเป็นของเสียที่ได้มาจากปลา เมื่อมีการสะสมมากขึ้นจะก่อให้เกิดความระคายเคืองอย่างรุนแรงต่อเยื่อเมือก ปลาจะมีอาการหายใจลำบาก จนในที่สุดจะเกิดอาการชักเกร็งและตายในที่สุด การเพิ่มความเป็นกรดในน้ำจะลดความเป็นพิษของแอมโมเนียได้ การเปลี่ยนถ่ายน้ำ 50% ของน้ำในตู้ และเพิ่มแบคทีเรียเข้าไปก็ช่วยลดแอมโมเนียได้เช่นกัน

4. พิษของไนไตรต์ มักเกิดขึ้นในช่วงแรกที่เริ่มการทำงานของระบบกรองน้ำ ซึ่งยังมีแบคทีเรียไม่เพียงพอ เมื่อมีการสะสมมากขึ้น ปลาจะมีอาการหายใจลำบากและเหงือกสีดำคล้าจัดมาก อาจชักตายเพราะระบบหายใจอัมพาตได้ ควรใส่แบคทีเรียเข้าไปช่วยลดไนไตรต์ด้วย

5. อุณหภูมิน้ำสูงเกินไป ปลาจะมีอาการว่ายน้ำอย่างรวดเร็วและอาจจะหายใจแรงและเร็วกว่าปกติ ถ้าไม่แก้ไขอาจจะเกิดอาการเส้นเลือดแตกที่ผิวหนังและครีบได้ การเติมเกลือแกง 0.5-1.0% ลงในน้ำจะทำให้อัตราการรอดตายสูงขึ้น

6. อุณหภูมิน้ำต่ำเกินไป ปลาที่ได้รับผลกระทบจากน้ำเย็นจะมีสีซีด ครีบห่อ ว่ายน้ำช้าๆอยู่กับที่ บางครั้งจะหมุนว่ายอย่างรวดเร็วหรือว่ายส่ายไปส่ายมา ถ้าไม่แก้ไขปลาอาจมีปัญหาในการทรงตัวได้ การเกิดโรคนี้จะทำให้ความสามารถในการรักษาความเข้มข้นของเลือดเสียไป และไตวายได้

7. พิษจากคลอรีน ปกติแล้วคลอรีนจะเป็นพิษมากต่อปลาสวยงาม เมื่อถูกสารนี้ปลาจะมีอาการสีซีดลงและหายใจติดขัด เนื่องจากมีการระคายเคืองของเนื้อเยื่อที่เหงือก อัตตราการตายจะขึ้นอยู่กับระดับของคลอรีน ถ้าได้มากกว่า 0.5 พีพีเอ็มก็มักทำให้เกิดการตายภายในระยะเวลาอันสั้น แต่ถ้าได้รับปริมาณน้อยเป็นเวลานาน จะมีอาการตาถลนด้วย อาจใช้โซเดียมไทโอซัลเฟตเป็นสารลดปริมาณคลอรีนที่รวดเร็วได้

8. พิษจากผงซักฟอก ผงซักฟอกเป็นพิษต่อปลาอย่างมาก โดยมากจะเกิดกับการล้างตู้ปลาที่ผิดๆ โดยมีผงซักฟอกเหลืออยู่ ทำให้ปลาระคายเคืองเพราะไปทำลายเมือกซึ่งปกคลุมตัวปลาอยู่ โดยเฉพาะบริเวณเหงือก นอกจากนั้นยังอาจจะถูกดูดซึมเข้ากับเม็ดเลือด ทำให้ปลาตายได้ โดยผิวอาจแสดงอาการสึกกร่อนในกรณีที่มีความเข้มข้นมาก ยังไม่มีสารที่ช่วยทำลายพิษชนิดนี้ได้

9. พิษจากก๊าซไข่เน่า ก๊าซชนิดนี้มักเกิดขึ้นเมื่อมีการอุตตันของระบบกรอง มักจะมีสาหร่าย(น่าจะเป็นตะไคร่)ขึ้นระยะแรก ก๊าซนี้จะแย่งจับออซิเจนกับเม็ดเลือดและทำลายระบบประสาทส่วนกลางโดยตรง ถ้ามีความเข้มข้นเกิน 10 พีพีเอ็ม สามารถทำให้ตายได้ แต่ถ้าได้รับในปริมาณน้อยจะมีอาการเครียดและพยายามขึ้นมาหายใจที่ผิวน้ำ เหงือกมีสีม่วงเข้ม การแก้ไขควรจะปรับปรุงระบบกรองไม่ให้มีการหมักหมมของของเสียมากเกินไป

11. พิษจากยาฆ่าแมลง มักเกิกขึ้นเพราะความไม่ระมัดระวัง เช่น ฉีดยาฆ่าแมลงในห้องที่มีตู้ปลาสวยงาม อาการของปลาที่ได้รับจะขึ้นอยู่กับชนิดของสารยาฆ่าแมลง แต่โดยทั่วไปมักมีอาการชักและเสียหน้าที่ของระบบประสาท

12. การขาดออกซิเจน ถ้ามีการให้ออกซิเจนไม่เพียงพอ ปลาจะมารวมกันที่ผิวน้ำเพื่อพยายามหายใจ การรักษาก็คือการลดอุณหภูมิและเพิ่มการให้ฟองอากาศ ถ้าทิ้งไว้นานอาจจะทำให้เหงือกปิดเสียรูปไปได้

13. การเกิดเนื้องอกในปลา เป็นโรคติดต่อที่พบได้บ่อยในปลาสวยงาม มักเกิดจากการได้รับสารก่อมะเร็งสะสมอยู่ในน้ำ พันธุ์ปลาแต่ละชนิดจะมีโอกาสเป็นไม่เท่ากัน แต่ก็ยังไม่ทราบสาเหตุที่แท้จริงที่ทำให้เกิดเนื้องอก
